We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions about the Thrift Shop.
What are some of the programs the Thrift Shop supports?
In 2011 the Thrift Shop distributed grants to the following programs and organizations:
Emergency Food Voucher Program, Survivor Outreach Program, Mobilization, Deployment & Family Readiness Program, Army Family Team Building, Exceptional Family Member Program, Military Spouse Employment Program, Employment Readiness Program, Army Volunteer Recognition Ceremony, Operation Sugar Plum, DAU-EFMP Easter Egg Hunt, Cub Scout Pack 118, Boy Scout Troop 118, MVHS All Night Graduation Party, Van Noy Library, Barden Eduction Center Tuitex Program, National Military Family Association, Belvoir Child, Youth & School Services, Girl Scout Service Unit and ten scholarships to military dependents!!
We accept furniture for consignment as space permits. That is determined by calling the Thrift Shop at 2PM on the day before you intend to bring in the furniture to see if we have room for it.
We accept clean, usable clothing of any season as a DONATION.
Our process is to sell the items consigned and donated and then use the money to support programs that benefit our soldiers and their families.
There is not a set schedule for mark-down. When a consigned item expires, it becomes Thrift Shop property. That does NOT mean it will be immediately marked down. Many expired items sell each day for the original price and that means more money in our charitable fund. We are a non-profit organization here to improve the quality of life for our soldiers and their families and selling these items is how we raise the funds to achieve that goal. Keeping the goal in mind, items are marked down when we deem it appropriate. We do not mark down items on customer request.
Why can’t I call and ask if you have a certain item in stock?
We receive dozens of requests like this a week and we simply do not have the manpower to search through our shelves each time someone asks. This is our policy and it applies to everyone.
No- we do not hold items so please do not call and ask us to hold an item for you.
Why do I have to have a SIGNED credit card. My card says “see id” and everyone else takes it!
No- our experience shows used electronic gaming systems are too problematic.
No- but we will take them as a donation and give you a tax receipt if you bring them in when we are open.
Still have questions? Please contact us anytime! We look forward to hearing from you.
